Lead Australia's most established medical program into its next era of excellence.

Sydney Medical School is Australia's longest-established medical school and is internationally recognised for innovation and excellence in health and medical education. With formal links to more than 50 hospitals and healthcare facilities across New South Wales, we are uniquely placed to provide students and academics with unparalleled opportunities for clinical learning, research, and impact.

We are currently seeking an outstanding and visionary academic leader to join us as Director of the Sydney Medical Program (SMP) - our flagship Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. The SMP is a postgraduate-entry, four-year program enrolling over 1,200 students across metropolitan and rural clinical schools, including our new Dubbo Stream. Grounded in the principles of "Prepared for Entry, Personalised Pathways and Prepared for Practice," the program is recognised for its early and immersive clinical experience, strong community and general practice focus, and personalised educational options.

As Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the MD program, ensuring it remains a contemporary, globally recognised, and accredited graduate medical degree. Reporting to the Head of School and Dean, you will lead a team of medical education experts and work closely with clinical schools, academic and clinical staff, students, and external partners to ensure program excellence and outstanding graduate outcomes.

This is a senior education-focused leadership role, but we also welcome applications from candidates with combined interests in education and research.

About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

You will be an accomplished academic leader with:
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive clinical experience in a medical field
  • A strong track record in curriculum development and innovation in medical and health professional education
  • Demonstrated success in leading graduate, postgraduate or vocational education programs in medicine or related fields

This is your opportunity to lead one of the world's most respected medical programs and make a lasting contribution to the education of the next generation of compassionate, capable, and community-focused medical practitioners.
