About the areaThe Law School comprises over fifty scholars engaged in teaching and research in law, socio-legal studies, and criminology. We offer three undergraduate majors (Business Law, Law and Society, and Criminology), a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, a postgraduate Juris Doctor (JD) and several Masters courses. Continually evolving to meet current and future challenges, we have a particular focus on the Indigenisation of the curriculum, internationalisation and multi-disciplinarity. Our academic staff have been drawn from top universities around the world and have broad-ranging expertise in delivering quality teaching programs.About the opportunityWe are seeking an outstanding academic to join the Law School as either a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the School’s teaching, research, and engagement activities in a dynamic and collegial environment.
  • You will teach across private law (with a particular focus on trusts), corporations law, and selected electives such as employment law, consumer law, and tax law, while supervising Honours, Masters, and HDR students.
  • The Senior Lecturer role focuses on contributing to high-quality teaching, research, and service, whereas the Associate Professor role requires providing leadership in these areas, including driving innovation and strategic initiatives.
  • Both positions involve active participation in governance and the collegial life of the Law School, with the Associate Professor expected to play a key role in academic leadership and strategic planning.

About you Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD), and a PhD in Law or a relevant postgraduate qualification combined with professional experience.

Teaching and Learning
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching law and a record of excellence in curriculum development, innovative teaching approaches, and assessment design.
  • For Associate Professor, substantial experience in mentoring junior colleagues and providing academic leadership in teaching programs.
  • For Senior Lecturer, experience in mentoring and supporting colleagues (relative to opportunity).

Research
  • For Senior Lecturer: An established research profile in one or more areas of private law (e.g., property, contracts, torts, remedies, equity and trusts) and evidence of scholarly publications.
  • For Associate Professor: A national and/or international research profile in private law and a substantial record of attracting external research funding.

Service and Engagement
  • Ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with professional bodies, government, and the broader community.
  • For Associate Professor, significant leadership in academic service and governance.
