Full Professor (W2) in Mathematical Optimization at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
We are inviting applications for the position of full professor in the area of mathematical optimization, to be filled as soon as possible. The mathe- matical research focus lies in the field of optimization theory and its foun- dational principles. The research expertise should include the develop- ment of analytical frameworks, structural insights, and fundamental meth- odologies related to optimization. Areas of particular interest include con- tinuous, stochastic, and/or discrete optimization, convex / non-convex analysis, variational methods, non-smooth / set-valued analysis, optimal control, and/or inverse problems as well as particle methods. Excellent applications with different, but relevant research profiles with focus on re- lated topics are also welcome. Candidates are expected to demonstrate potential for acquiring third‑party funding. Active participation in existing research programs such as Collaborative Research Center 1481 “Spar- sity and Singular Structures” as well as in interdisciplinary cooperations within RWTH Aachen and beyond will be desirable. Adequate participa- tion in the teaching duties of the Department of Mathematics is expected.
The requirements include a doctoral degree and additional research ex- perience, such as a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) or equivalent achievements gained as a university researcher or professor or in a research position outside academia. Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent Ger- man is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years.
