Actively participate as part of the Anatomical Pathology team with a focus on specimen cut-up, routine histology and immunohistochemistry.Apply well developed scientific and advanced technical knowledge, skills, and experience in the analysis of Anatomical Pathology specimens with an emphasis on surgical and post-mortem tissue for histology.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability to apply competent scientific judgement in the coordination of Anatomical Pathology processes and to follow established standard operating procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to provide Anatomical Pathology services specifically in the areas of histology with a focus on microtomy, embedding and performing duties associated with the processing of surgical tissue through the cut-up areas of the histology laboratory.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
- Demonstrated ability (or understanding) to triage workloads and communicate this effectively with team members.
- Proficiency in the use of laboratory information systems or the ability to rapidly acquire these skills.
- Experience or an understanding of the various facets of immunohistochemical and molecular testing on anatomical pathology specimens would be highly desirable.
- The successful applicant will be required to participate in a rotational roster that has morning shifts that commence as early as 5.30am, day shifts that commence at 9.30am and evening shifts that commence early afternoon and finish at 11pm.
- The successful applicant will be required to participate in a rotational roster that includes week-end shifts (Tuesday to Saturday) and public holidays as required.
- The successful applicant may be required to participate in a rotational roster to cover on-call arrangements as required.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements- The successful applicant must hold at least a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution within Australia; or for qualifications obtained outside Australia recognition assessment by AIMS confirming Australian equivalency.
- While not mandatory, a higher qualification/s would be well regarded.
- In some circumstances Queensland Health staff may be required to perform overtime or participate in late shifts, on-call, or weekend roster arrangements to help meet operational demand.
