🩺 Your Role in the Emergency Team The emergency department at ARH Canberra operates:
- Weekdays: afternoon, evening, and overnight shifts (until 8am)
- Weekends & public holidays: 24/7 coverage
You’ll see a mix of:
- Primary emergency consultations
- Referred cases from general practices
- Ongoing management of hospitalised specialist referral patients after hours, with detailed treatment plans in place
🕒 Shift Options That Fit Your Life We understand that flexibility is key, which is why we offer a variety of shift lengths to suit different working styles and personal preferences:
- Urgent Care Shifts (6 hours) – Fast-paced, consultation-focused shifts ideal for veterinarians who thrive in high-intensity, shorter blocks of clinical work.
- Hospital Care Shifts (10 hours) – Longer shifts focused on the ongoing management of inpatients and referred cases, offering continuity and deeper case engagement.
Whether you prefer shorter urgent care blocks or more in-depth hospital casework, we’ll work with you to tailor a schedule that supports your lifestyle and clinical goals.

🙋 Who You Are - A registered (or eligible) veterinarian in the ACT
