Glencore to recruit a Geotechnical Engineer for the
George Fisher Mine , one of Australia's largest and most technically advanced underground zinc, lead and silver mining operations. Working within an experienced Technical Services team and reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you'll provide critical geotechnical support to underground operations, ensuring mine stability, reducing geotechnical risk and contributing to the safe and efficient delivery of the mine plan. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their career within a world-class mining operation while working alongside highly experienced geotechnical professionals.
Key Responsibilities - Provide geotechnical input into underground development, infrastructure and stope design.
- Conduct routine underground inspections and monitor ground conditions.
- Design and review ground support systems.
- Analyse geotechnical and instrumentation data to identify and manage geotechnical risks.
- Support paste backfill QA/QC and compliance activities.
- Investigate ground control incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain geotechnical databases, models and monitoring systems.
- Work closely with Operations, Planning and Technical Services teams to optimise mine performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity and operational excellence.
About You: - A degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology, Geomechanics or a related discipline.
- Previous geotechnical engineering experience within an underground mining environment.
- Strong knowledge of rock mass classification, ground support design and underground mining methods.
- Experience with software such as Deswik, Leapfrog and/or Rocscience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- A genuine commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
