Position Summary : The Oncology nurse will be involved in all aspects of the oncology program, including patient/family assessment, teaching and administering chemotherapy, and providing supportive and palliative care. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the oncology nurse will participate in the development and implementation of patient treatment plans; quality improvement processes and will support education and research initiatives. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. Position Requirements:

  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of Oncology Foundations Course from the deSouza Institute preferred but enrollment acceptable
  • Completion of Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Oncology Course from deSouza Institute mandatory
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV initiation and Venous Access Device management mandatory
  • Canadian Nurses Association certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse (CONC) preferred; however consideration will be given to candidates who are willing to obtain (must be completed within 3 years of hire).
  • Minimum of 1 year recent experience in oncology nursing
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working with a variety of computer systems and software applications
  • Participation in education and clinical training programs
  • Principles of oncology and adult learning
  • Therapeutic communication techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently
  • Knowledge in patient-focused care and the needs of the oncology patient population
