Position Summary: St. Luke’s is seeking a General Thoracic Surgeon to diagnose and surgically treat complex conditions of the chest, including the lungs, esophagus, chest wall, diaphragm, airway, and mediastinum. The ideal candidate is skilled in open, VATS (Video‑Assisted Thoracic Surgery), and preferably robotic techniques and is committed to comprehensive, multidisciplinary care across the pre‑operative, intra‑operative, and post‑operative continuum.
Core Responsibilities - Patient Evaluation: Conduct consultations; obtain and analyze medical histories; order and interpret diagnostic tests; educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, and surgical risks/benefits.
- Surgical Procedures: Perform advanced thoracic operations, including lung and esophageal tumor resections, airway procedures, diaphragm/chest wall reconstruction, and management of trauma. (Program‑specific scope may include valve/structural or transplant participation if credentialed and applicable.)
- Perioperative Care: Lead care before, during, and after surgery—ICU/step‑down rounding, pain control, complication prevention/management, and timely discharge planning.
- Collaboration: Work closely with oncology, pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, radiation oncology, critical care, radiology, pathology, and palliative care to deliver coordinated, patient‑centered care.
- Quality, Safety & Documentation: Adhere to evidence‑based protocols; ensure accurate, timely documentation and coding; engage in morbidity & mortality review and quality improvement.
- Education & Leadership: Teach residents/APPs (if applicable), participate in tumor boards and service line meetings, and contribute to protocol development.
- Professional Growth: Maintain CME, board certification/eligibility, and competency in evolving techniques (including minimally invasive and robotic platforms).

Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements: Education: MD/DO
Licensure/Certification: BC/BE in Specialty, ACLS and BLS Certified, DEA License, and Missouri Board of Registration of the Healing Arts.
- VATS required, Robotics preferred
- Experienced providers preferred; new graduates will be considered.
