Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity Due to ongoing growth, we’re looking for an experienced stormwater-focused civil engineer to join our Southern Water team in Christchurch. You’ll be part of a respected team of stormwater and water resources specialists, working on projects ranging from catchment planning and options assessment to detailed design and construction management. Our clients span Canterbury and wider New Zealand, across local government, transportation, industrial, commercial, and agricultural sectors. We offer flexible working arrangements to support your lifestyle—whether part-time or full-time.
Ko wai koe | About you You’re an intermediate or senior-level stormwater engineer with technical experience across hydrology, pipe and open channel hydraulics, catchment planning, water quality treatment, flood risk assessment, and civil engineering design. You bring proven consultancy experience, having worked directly with clients to deliver stormwater solutions across varied sectors. You take ownership of your work and consistently deliver projects on time and within budget. You build strong client relationships by understanding their needs and delivering trusted results that lead to repeat business. You’re a collaborative team player who thrives in a diverse and talented group. Familiarity with New Zealand standards and codes of practice (e.g. TP10, NZS 4404, MfE guidelines) is essential. Chartered status is preferred, but we welcome those actively working towards chartership. A relevant tertiary qualification is required. Project management or site experience would be an advantage.
