Position OverviewGriffith University is seeking a skilled and proactive Cybersecurity Analyst to help protect the University's information systems, networks, applications, and digital assets from evolving cyber threats. This role is responsible for monitoring security events, investigating incidents, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing effective security controls to safeguard sensitive student, staff, research, and institutional information.Working closely with IT teams, researchers, and business stakeholders, the Cybersecurity Analyst will contribute to strengthening the University's cybersecurity capabilities while supporting compliance with applicable Australian cybersecurity standards, privacy obligations, and University policies. Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor security systems, networks, cloud environments, and endpoints to detect, analyse, and respond to cybersecurity threats.
  • Investigate security incidents and support incident response, containment, recovery, and post-incident reviews.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, security scans, and risk assessments, and recommend remediation activities.
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve security controls, policies, standards, and technical safeguards.
  • Monitor Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms and analyse security logs to identify suspicious activity.
  • Support identity and access management processes, including authentication, authorisation, privileged access, and account lifecycle management.
  • Assist with internal and external security audits and support compliance with relevant cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, application development, and research technology teams to strengthen security across University systems.
  • Develop and deliver cybersecurity awareness resources and guidance for University staff and students.
  • Prepare incident reports, security documentation, metrics, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends, and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery, business continuity, and cyber resilience initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in cybersecurity, information security, network security, IT risk management, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of security technologies including SIEM platforms, endpoint protection, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and vulnerability management tools.
  • Experience with cloud security, identity and access management, and security monitoring technologies.
  • Understanding of recognised cybersecurity frameworks and standards, including the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO/IEC 27001, and the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) Essential Eight.
  • Professional certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), GIAC certifications, or equivalent are highly regarded.
  • Experience with scripting or automation using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and incident management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders in a higher education or research environment.
