Consultants in Critical Care Transfer (ARCC KSS) role at The Black Dog Tavern, Co. We are inviting applications for Consultants to join the new Adult
Critical Care Transfer team (ACCTS) covering Kent, Surrey & Sussex (KSS). The ARCC KSS service is hosted by RSFT and supports inter-hospital transfers for adult patients across the region and into London for escalation of care, repatriation, capacity, and continuation of care.Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, safe clinical care during inter-hospital transfers and in-hospital settings, using appropriate skills and equipment.
- Take referrals from healthcare providers across KSS, assess urgency, allocate priorities, and communicate with referring and receiving Trusts to mobilise teams and provide updates.
- Work on a daytime rota covering 09:00–21:00, 7 days per week (365 days per year). There are currently no night shifts for this service.
- Be based at one of two hubs in KSS (Crawley and Maidstone) with potential for occasional relocation between bases for clinical experience.
Location and Working PatternBases:
Crawley and Maidstone, KSS. Rotas: 12-hour shifts (09:00–21:00), day-time roster, 7 days a week. Regular commitment encouraged (e.g., 1–2 PAs per week or ad hoc shifts).Qualifications
- Essential:
Full GMC license to practice and on the GMC Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) or Anaesthesia (or both). - Desirable: FFICM or FRCA;
Advanced Life Support provider; relevant specialist courses (e.g., difficult airway, point-of-care ultrasound).
Experience
- Essential:
Extensive experience in intensive care medicine or anaesthesia with ability to independently assess, resuscitate, stabilise, and treat critically unwell adult patients; experienced in critical care transfer; evidence of completion of critical care transfer training; advanced airway skills to deliver unplanned emergency anaesthesia in remote settings. - Desirable:
Prior experience in critical care transfer and/or retrieval in a dedicated service.
