ELIXIR is a European life sciences infrastructure, bringing together scientists from over 240 research institutes in 21 countries. We enable researchers to access and analyse life science data, to improve the value and impact of life science research on public health, the environment and the economy. ELIXIR’s services are extensively used by industry to develop new knowledge and innovations. Capturing and communicating the impact of the ELIXIR research infrastructure on research and society is an important role of ELIXIR.
Your role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Outreach Officer to cover maternity leave for 12 months. You will join the External Relations team at the ELIXIR Hub, the coordination centre of our dynamic, fast-paced, international infrastructure.
The main purpose of this role is to manage, implement and monitor ELIXIR’s impact and industry portfolios, supporting outreach to key stakeholders. The role will include working on Horizon Europe projects like ELIXIR-STEERS. You will work closely with staff in ELIXIR Nodes, colleagues in the ELIXIR Hub, and other scientists from within and outside the organisation.
As the key liaison between industry and impact specialists across ELIXIR’s Nodes, you will coordinate ELIXIR's portfolio of activities relating to industry outreach and demonstrating socio-economic impact. You will foster connections between ELIXIR members and external partners.
This position offers the opportunity to strengthen key skills in stakeholder engagement, science communication, data tracking and scientometrics, and international collaboration, while contributing directly to ELIXIR’s industry and impact strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic implementation and coordination
- Coordinate ELIXIR's industry and impact-related activities within the Scientific Programme (2024–2028), including reviewing proposals for ELIXIR funding schemes for knowledge exchange projects, Industry engagement events and staff travel.
- Support ELIXIR Nodes in developing national industry engagement and impact evaluation frameworks.
- Lead and contribute to relevant work packages in EU-funded projects, including ELIXIR-STEERS.
- Promote relevant EU funding opportunities to ELIXIR Nodes on topics relating to industry and impact.
Stakeholder engagement and external outreach
- Act as liaison between ELIXIR Nodes, funders and industry stakeholders.
- Build strategic relationships with research infrastructures (e.g. other life science research infrastructures, ESFRI) and industry groups (e.g. Pistoia Alliance, EFPIA).
- Represent ELIXIR in external meetings and prepare presentations for varied audiences.
Monitoring, evaluation and reporting
- Maintain and analyse records of industry use and impact cases.
- Support reporting through dashboards (e.g. Tableau) and assist with data validation.
- Manage external contractors, track project progress and ensure value for money.
Communications and administration
- Manage the content for discussion with ELIXIR’s Industry Advisory Committee (IAC), including calls for members and agenda preparation.
- Organise virtual impact and industry group meetings once every two months
- Provide content for the ELIXIR industry newsletter updates for the industry and impact web pages.
- Assist with virtual and in-person events led by the External Relations team.
- Set up and prepare consultation responses and requests from funders with team members.
You have
Experience in life sciences is beneficial but not essential; candidates from other domains with relevant coordination or external engagement experience are encouraged to apply. Training will be given on the tasks of the role, therefore prior experience of working in or with industry or the topic of impact assessment is not necessary.
Knowledge And Experience
- Some experience in engaging with multiple stakeholders, including academics, industry, and funders and building strong networks.
- Excellent presentation skills and experience in representing an organisation's mission and activities to external audiences.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to think critically and strategically
- Excellent communication and networking skills.
- Experience in working on EU-funded or multi-stakeholder projects.
- Experience in organising high-level meetings, such as advisory committees, and leading key discussions to drive impactful outcomes.

Contract length: 12 months (ideally commencing in July 2025 to allow for a handover)
Salary: Grade 5 - 6. Monthly salary from £3,229 (grade 5) or £3,612 (grade 6) after tax plus financial allowances based on family circumstances. Excluding pension and insurance contributions.
