Job Description:
The Role
The Director of Technology will lead the Institute’s mission-led objectives by shaping and evolving the technology strategy, overseeing high performing technical teams, and ensuring effective delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder projects. The Director will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to translate fundamental research into practical solutions, while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and inclusivity.
Your Profile
We’re seeking an accomplished technology leader with a strong track record of steering complex, high-impact technical delivery in research or mission-driven organisations. They will have significant experience leading and managing large-scale technical delivery teams, ideally in multidisciplinary, cross-sector environments. They will possess strong strategic planning, operational, and stakeholder management skills and cultivate an atmosphere of innovation and inclusivity. The successful candidate will hold a degree in technology, science, or engineering, with evidence of continuous professional development to stay at the forefront of technological and scientific advancements.
Main Duties
  • Design and maintain an effective operational model to support delivery of S&I Missions and Strategic Projects.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the organisation’s overall strategy and missions with various internal stakeholders
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to strengthen the delivery infrastructure of the Institute
  • Support delivery by building effective relationships with senior technical counterparts in partner organisations
  • Maintain a network of senior technical relationships across a diverse internal and external network to inform our strategic choices and be attuned to trends and developments.

The Institute is headquartered in Kings Cross, London and so while we operate a hybrid working model you will be expected to spend time there each week to connect to your peer group and to work with teams across the Institute.

The Alan Turing Institute is based at the British Library, in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter. We expect staff to come to our office at least 4 days per month. Some roles may require more days in the office; the hiring manager will be able to confirm this during the interview.
