Job Description:
Do you get excited about working in a lab? Want to contribute to the safety of our food through your work? And does it sound fun to do that in a friendly team where hard work and laughter go hand in hand? Then we’re looking for you!

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Chemical Analyst (MBO+/HBO) who feels at home in a dynamic laboratory environment and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves. You’ll be part of the Pesticides in Fruits and Vegetables team, where we analyze food daily for the presence of pesticides. Your work directly contributes to food safety for both humans and animals.

What will you be doing?
As a Pesticide Chemical Analyst, you’ll perform analyses using standardized protocols. The focus is on instrumental analysis using modern measuring systems in the field of LC-(HR)MS/MS and GC-(HR)MS/MS. The analysis and research results are reported to the project leader. As an analyst, you’ll be working in a team responsible for efficiently performing and reporting analyses.
Every morning, samples are received in our laboratory. You’ll then get started independently, following fixed protocols.

Your tasks and responsibilities include:
  • preparing the samples;
  • performing measurements using our modern LC-(HR)MS/MS and/or GC-(HR)MS/MS systems;
  • processing and interpreting the data

You’ll be involved in the entire process: from sample preparation to reporting. This makes the work varied and educational. You’ll be working in a team of committed colleagues, together ensuring reliable results.
You will join Pesticides Team 1, a team of 23 colleagues dedicated to food safety. It’s a professional team where collaboration, quality, and working environment are key. Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:
  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
  • there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
  • a fixed year-end bonus of 8,3%;
  • excellent pension scheme.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €2671,- and €3719,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 6-7).

Additionally, a contract for 32 hours a week can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended on good performance. Of course, we are happy to have a conversation with you if you have any questions about this.

Wageningen University & Research offers plenty of opportunities for growth and development, with a strong internal recruitment policy and excellent training programmes.

You will work on the greenest and most innovative campus in the Netherlands, in an international and open working environment. For 20 consecutive years, we have been voted the "best university" in the Netherlands! A place to be proud of. The mission of Wageningen University & Research is ‘To explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life’.

  • (internship) experience in a laboratory environment;
  • willingness to work about once a month on a Saturday;
  • experience with LC-MS/MS and/or GC-MS/MS and sample preparation techniques is a strong asset, but not required — we’re happy to teach you;
  • preferably, you have experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.

In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level B1. If you don’t speak Dutch yet, we expect the willingness to learn Dutch. We will help you with this.
