Job Description:
An Australian technology company developing complex regulated products is looking for a Product Development Manager to help lead the next stage of growth across its engineering and product development capability. The business operates within a medical device and compliance driven environment and develops integrated products that combine electronics, embedded systems, firmware, software, and custom hardware platforms. With products progressing through ongoing development, validation, and commercialisation activities, the company is looking for someone who can provide both technical leadership and strong project direction across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
This role sits at the intersection of engineering execution, technical leadership, and product delivery. The successful candidate will help coordinate engineering activities across hardware, firmware, and software teams while ensuring development priorities, timelines, and technical decisions remain aligned with broader business and product objectives. The company is specifically looking for a technically credible leader who can operate as a subject matter expert within at least one core domain including Hardware/Electronics, Firmware, or Software Engineering. While the role is leadership focused, they want someone who can still engage deeply with technical teams, contribute to architectural and development discussions, mentor engineers, and help solve complex technical problems in a practical way. The role would suit someone coming from a medical device, biotech, or other highly regulated engineering environment where product reliability, traceability, documentation, and structured development processes are critical. This is an opportunity to join a growing engineering focused organisation developing sophisticated products within a technically challenging and commercially meaningful environment.
This is a full-time role based in Melbourne. For interstate candidates, relocation is required and a relocation allowance will be provided. For the right candidate, visa sponsorship is available.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and product development activities
  • Help define technical direction, development priorities, and delivery structure across projects
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to hardware, firmware, and software engineers
  • Act as a subject matter expert within Hardware/Electronics, Firmware, or Software Engineering
  • Support system architecture discussions and cross functional technical decision making
  • Drive development timelines, project coordination, and engineering execution
  • Work closely with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and leadership teams
  • Support product verification, validation, risk management, and production readiness activities
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and product development workflows
  • Help guide products through regulated development and commercialisation environments

Requirements
  • Previous experience within medical device, biotech, or other highly regulated product environments
  • Strong technical background in either Hardware/Electronics, Firmware, or Software Engineering
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams within multidisciplinary environments
  • Strong understanding of full product development lifecycles from concept through to production
  • Experience coordinating technical projects and engineering delivery activities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong organisational and project leadership capability
  • Experience working within structured engineering and quality driven development processes

Desirable but not essential
  • Experience with embedded systems or integrated hardware/software products
  • Exposure to regulatory standards and compliance driven development environments
  • Experience scaling engineering teams or improving engineering delivery processes
  • Background working with complex multidisciplinary engineering platforms
