About the Role: We are seeking a passionate and high-performing Senior Lecturer to make significant contributions to teaching and research and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy and resources education at Curtin.
This newly created role is integral to driving MEE’s contribution to Curtin’s strategic objectives in the global energy and resources transition, and both developing and enhancing scholarly teaching practices and a programme of leading edge research, that will further elevate the standing of MEE; the Energy Engineering Discipline; WASM; the Faculty of Science and Engineering; and Curtin University in the international research arena.
You will lead industry engagement, including the management and development of research activities that support risk, evaluation and planning programmes.
In addition to the
Essential Criteria noted below, to be successful in the role, our ideal candidate will have:
- A PhD in a field that is relevant to the needs of the Minerals and Energy sectors in WA
- Demonstrated experience with the application of evaluation methodologies
- Relevant industry experience
- Experience with the development and delivery of Minerals and/or Energy Economics materials for professional graduate-level students in both traditional face-to-face and online modes of delivery.
Your responsibilities will include: Teaching- Deliver high quality and innovative teaching to postgraduate and undergraduate students across a range of modes principally in the areas of minerals and/or energy economics.
- Demonstrate a commitment to, and promote in others, ongoing reflective improvement in teaching.
- Conduct tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations and/or workshops as appropriate, which stimulate and foster student learning.
- Develop pedagogically innovative curriculum at school level(s).
- Keep abreast of current discipline theory and practice.
- Undertake a broad range of administrative functions connected with unit coordination.
Research- Assist with the management of risk, evaluation and planning programmes, as required by industry demands from time to time, and support the development of projects that facilitate the integration of research outcomes across the programmes.
- Develop a nationally and internationally competitive high-quality research programme in the areas of economics and/or finance that is relevant to the needs of the minerals and/or energy sectors in Australia.
- Actively participate in collaborative research activities within the Discipline and School, building international and domestic research links.
- Actively seek competitive research grants and/or fellowships.
- Disseminate research findings through seminars, workshops and conferences.
- Publish in high quality refereed journals/outlets in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
- Undertake co-supervision of research doctoral students.
- Work towards international recognition for research in the discipline/field.
Service and Leadership:- Contribute to academic service, collegiality and engagement, including efficient management and development of the MSc in Minerals and Energy Economics, and contribute to relevant undergraduate courses supported by the incumbent’s knowledge in the engineering and associated economics sectors.
- Significantly contribute to external activities relevant to the discipline/profession and community engagement.
- Provide leadership in relation to school/faculty–wide initiatives e.g. a collaborative network across the WA School of Mine.
- Foster the development of a collegial and supportive working environment.
- Model a high standard of professional behaviour consistent with the University Code of Conduct and Vision, Mission and Values.
Role Requirements:- As this is a fixed term position, you will require work rights in Australia that match the tenure of the role. We will also consider international candidates who are eligible for a relevant visa.
- Periodic travel between Curtin’s Perth and Kalgoorlie campuses will be required for teaching, research, and administrative purposes.

Who we are looking for – Selection Criteria:
Essential:- A doctoral qualification in minerals and/or energy economics, or a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and application of different evaluation methodologies.
- Demonstrated teaching skills at the professional post-graduate level.
- Experience in curriculum development and unit/course coordination.
- Demonstrated experience in development and delivery of fully online units.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
- Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.
Desirable/beneficial:
- Knowledge and experience in other discipline areas within WASM (Mining/Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering).
- Experience in the development and delivery of content to industry professionals using non-traditional teaching modes (e.g. Intensive, Blended, Short-form learning, etc.).
- A demonstrated capacity for research in minerals and/or energy economics and policy areas.
- An established record of research outputs/creative works in high quality refereed academic journals/outlets consistent with the discipline.
