Job Description:
About The Role

As a Research Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the University’s research community by overseeing the financial management of a diverse portfolio of research grants and projects. You will ensure projects are set up accurately, managed effectively throughout their lifecycle, and reported on in line with funder and University requirements. Working closely with academics, funders, and colleagues across Finance and Research & Enterprise, you will provide expert guidance and maintain high standards of financial stewardship.

You will also lead and support a small team of finance professionals, developing their skills and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact in supporting world-class research while developing your own expertise within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

About You

You will bring strong general accounting knowledge and experience, with excellent numerical and analytical skills, and the ability to interpret and communicate financial information clearly. While previous experience in project accounting is desirable, it is not essential — full training and support will be provided.

Whether your accounting experience comes from higher education, the public sector, or industry, we value your transferable skills and your commitment to accuracy, problem-solving, and customer service. You will be confident managing your workload, supporting colleagues, and contributing ideas to improve systems and processes. If you are ready to grow your expertise in research finance and lead a small, motivated team, we would love to hear from you.
