Our client is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Electrician to join our team at a large-scale vegetable farm and packing shed. The role involves ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of electrical systems, machinery, and equipment critical to the packing processes. The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot faults, and support upgrades to minimize downtime in a fast-paced agricultural environment. This position requires compliance with Australian electrical standards and a focus on workplace safety. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance on electrical systems, including wiring, switchboards, motors, robotics, lighting, and control panels across the packing sheds.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults in machinery such as conveyor systems, sorting equipment, refrigeration units, and automated packing lines to minimize production downtime.
  • Install, commission, and modify electrical equipment and systems, including new installations for farm expansions or upgrades to packing facilities.
  • Perform electrical tagging, testing, and validation in accordance with Australian Standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3760) to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other automation systems used in vegetable processing and handling.
  • Respond to breakdown calls promptly, including out-of-hours support during peak seasons, to restore operations quickly and safely.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams, farm operators, and external contractors to plan and execute maintenance schedules, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of electrical spare parts using digital systems or logs.
  • Ensure all work adheres to Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, including risk assessments, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazardous area management where applicable (e.g., dust-prone packing environments).
  • Assist in energy efficiency initiatives, such as optimizing lighting to reduce operational costs on the farm.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Trade-qualified Electrician with a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (or equivalent).
  • Current unrestricted Electrical License (A-grade or equivalent) issued by a relevant Australian state or territory authority (e.g., Electrical Safety Office in QLD or Fair Trading in NSW).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Electrician, preferably in an agricultural, food processing, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with industrial automation, electronics, robotics and PLC fault-finding (e.g., Allen-Bradley or Siemens), and hazardous area electrical work is highly desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the farm site or to nearby suppliers.

Skills and Attributes
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure during breakdowns.
  • Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment, multimeters, and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of Australian electrical codes, standards, and WHS legislation.
  • Good physical fitness for working in outdoor farm environments, including exposure to weather, dust, and heights (e.g., ladder work).
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with non-technical staff and documenting work.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a proactive approach to maintenance.
  • Basic computer literacy for using maintenance software and reading schematics.
