Job Description:
Consultant Psychiatrist – Child & Adolescent Mental Health :
Goldfields Region, Western Australia

Are you a passionate Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist looking for an opportunity where your expertise truly changes lives?

We are recruiting on behalf of a major regional health service, one of the largest and most advanced in Western Australia - seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join its high-performing mental health team in the Goldfields.
This modern and well-resourced regional hospital is the primary specialist referral centre for the region. It offers a supportive multidisciplinary environment, excellent leadership, strong clinical governance, and a team with robust administrative and professional support. You will be joining a service committed to innovation, cultural safety, and delivering high-quality care to children, adolescents, and their families across diverse communities.

About the Role:
As the Consultant Psychiatrist for you will:
  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, and management for children and adolescents (0–18 years) with a wide diversity of presentations including anxiety, attachment difficulties, neurodevelopmental complexities, suicidality, NSSI, school refusal, and substance-related issues.
  • Work collaboratively with a dedicated team including clinical psychologists, senior mental health clinicians, professional leads, infant mental health specialists, and administrative staff.
  • Partner closely with senior leadership—including the Director of Clinical Services and Regional Mental Health Manager—to guide service delivery and support multidisciplinary teams.
  • Deliver care across the Goldfields, with scheduled travel between Kalgoorlie and the coastal hub of Esperance, as well as outreach to smaller communities such as Norseman, Laverton, Leonora, and Menzies.
  • Engage deeply with Aboriginal communities to strengthen cultural safety, awareness, and co-design initiatives.
  • Enjoy a true work–life balance with no on-call duties and standard weekday hours (08:30–16:30).
  • Participate in key projects such as implementing ICAMHS Taskforce recommendations, enhancing models of care, and driving innovation in infant and adolescent mental health.

Why People Love Living in the Goldfields:
  • The region offers the perfect balance of outback adventure and coastal bliss—where you can explore red desert landscapes one week and relax on white-sand beaches the next.
  • The community is renowned for its warmth, inclusiveness, and strong sense of connection, making it easy for newcomers to feel at home.
  • The cost of living is significantly lower compared to major Australian cities, giving residents more space, more lifestyle, and more financial freedom.
  • Outdoor enthusiasts thrive here—whether you’re into 4WD adventures, camping, hiking, fishing, or simply enjoying vast open skies and breathtaking sunsets.
  • Families love the region for its safe neighbourhoods, excellent schools, and slower pace of life that prioritises wellbeing and connection.

Additional Benefits:
  • Highly competitive remuneration packages—among the highest in Australia for consultant-level roles.
  • Rural location incentives including district allowances, subsidised accommodation, air-conditioning subsidies, additional leave entitlements, and capped regional airfares to Perth (only a one-hour flight away).
  • Visa sponsorship options available, including pathways to Permanent Residency (conditions apply).
  • Relocation assistance for you and your family, including reimbursement of eligible expenses.

What You’ll Bring:
  • FRANZCP or equivalent specialist qualifications eligible for registration with AHPRA.
  • Experience or interest in child & adolescent mental health.
  • Commitment to culturally safe practice, team collaboration, and service improvement.
