Metal Machinist – First Class
Full-Time Position | Adelaide, SA
About the Role
SA Construct is seeking a skilled Metal Machinist (first class) to join our advanced fabrication division. This full-time role is ideal for an experienced operator with a background in precision manufacturing, particularly in CNC and PLC-controlled machinery. The successful candidate will contribute to the production of architectural cladding and structural metal components used in commercial projects across South Australia.Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC machining equipment (including PLC-controlled systems) to manufacture high-precision aluminium and metal components.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD/CAM files, and specifications to ensure accuracy of machining processes.
  • Conduct tool changes, adjust feeds and speeds, and perform offsets to meet tolerances and product requirements.
  • Perform in-process quality checks and complete final inspections to ensure compliance with ISO standards and project specifications.
  • Maintain a high standard of machine cleanliness, preventative maintenance, and record-keeping.
  • Diagnose and rectify minor faults in machinery or programming errors during operations.
  • Operate safely at all times and in accordance with company policies and WHS requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the production team and provide feedback for process improvement.
  • Support training and mentoring of junior operators, where required.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a CNC Machinist or Metal Machinist (First Class), preferably in a high-volume or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with metal cutting, shaping, and forming.
  • Ability to work independently and manage production priorities.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on quality control.
  • Forklift licence, white card, and full manual driver’s licence essential.

Desirable
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles or exposure to production planning systems.
