About Us Protecnium is a global engineering consultancy specialising in heavy civil works, construction, and energy. With a presence in Australia, Europe, and the Americas, we deliver high-level technical support for complex infrastructure developments across all project phases—from planning and design to execution and commissioning.
We are currently seeking an experienced Survey Manager to support the delivery of a landmark infrastructure and renewable energy project in regional New South Wales. The role focuses on large-scale underground and surface construction, including TBM operations and Drill & Blast works.
Role Overview As the Survey Manager, you will act as the primary liaison between the site-based survey teams and the technical office. You will be responsible for managing high-precision survey activities, overseeing data integrity, and ensuring survey operations align with project specifications and tolerances. A strong emphasis is placed on supporting TBM excavation and associated underground infrastructure works.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise all surveying activities on-site and off-site.
  • Serve as the operational link between field surveyors and the technical department.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency across all surveying systems and records.
  • Provide surveying support for TBM operations, including alignment and tolerance checks.
  • Manage survey subcontractors and monitor compliance with technical standards.
  • Respond to and resolve survey-related non-conformities (NCRs), RFIs, and correspondence.
  • Contribute to the review of permanent design elements from a surveying standpoint.
  • Maintain calibration records and ensure all survey instruments are properly certified.
  • Support handover processes and assist during peak periods or staff leave.
  • Oversee plano-altimetric controls for shafts and tunnels, ensuring compliance with required frequencies.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in major infrastructure or tunnelling projects (TBM experience essential).
  • Proven track record in leading survey teams on complex civil projects.
  • Experience in Drill & Blast environments is an advantage.
  • Proficient in Leica Cloud, Leica Cyclone, and Starnet.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Fluent English (C1 level or higher).
  • Valid driver’s licence and flexibility to travel between sites.
  • Australian experience is beneficial but not required.
