Global Thai Restaurant & Bar in Whakatane (an hour away from Rotorua and Tauranga) is seeking a Thai cuisine chef to join our busy Thai restaurant that was established in 2009. We are seeking a chef with appropriate Thai cuisine cooking qualifications and at least four years full time restaurant or hotel work experience cooking Thai cuisine. We are a genuine Thai restaurant – our customers appreciate that we cook authentic Thai food with the correct balance of sour, sweet, salty, bitter and spicy flavours backed up by carefull attention to texture, colour and presentation. Beyond standard Thai cuisine cooking skills your responsibilities will include making entrees and sauces, food planning, stock control and some cleaning activities. Of course you must be experienced in fruit and vegetable carving to meet the presentation requirements of the role. Note that Global Thai offers a limited range of European cuisine dishes. Any additional cooking experience in a café would also be well regarded. We will offer you an hourly wage rate based on the skills and experience you bring to our business. We are looking for someone worth $30 per hour and we will pay you FOR EVERY HOUR YOUR WORK! Over a standard week of five working days you would normally work 40 or more hours with additional paid hours during busy times. Normal New Zealand entitlements for holiday pay, sick leave, overtime and time in lieu when working public holidays all apply. Work hours are generally 11:00am to 2:00pm and 4:30pm to 9:30pm but you would need to be flexible according to our business needs. One and a half days off every week is guaranteed. We can provide temporary accommodation until you find accommodation best suited to you. Please note that short listed applicants may be asked to come to Whakatane to demonstrate their Thai cuisine cooking skills. Applications for this position should have New Zealand residency.
