Description:

Possesses, understands, and applies a comprehensive knowledge in area of specialization. Develops understanding and skills to allow for completion of assignments that cross fields of specialization. Develops leadership and management skills.
  • Receives/Reviews progress and evaluates results of experiments or projects under control or supervisory responsibility.
  • Recommends changes in research, testing or experimental procedures.
  • May be responsible for a single highly technical and complex piece of research equipment.
  • May review and evaluate the effectiveness of personnel.
  • May plan for and assign personnel to projects under control.
  • Operates with latitude for unreviewed action.
  • May receive general supervision conferring with higher levels only in unusual situations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Description:

Additional Position Information

The Department of Decision & Information Sciences at the University of Houston seeks to fill a post-doctoral research position. The candidate will work with Dr. Shubham Akshat in the healthcare space; most projects involve close collaboration with healthcare practitioners and working with large-scale data. The candidate will be required to relocate to Houston, home to one of the world's largest medical centers. The initial term of the position is 1 year, with the possibility of renewal. Candidate must be self-driven and have a proven record of publications and completed projects that demonstrate an outstanding ability to work with data.

Anticipated start and end date: June 1, 2026 – May 31, 2027. The position may be renewed for additional period.

Position Includes The Following Responsibilities But Not Limited To:

  • Conceptualizing research questions
  • Data analysis
  • Programming
  • Conducting high quality research
  • Writing papers targeting top management journals (e.g., MS, MSOM, OR, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in operations management, computational social science, economics, computer science, network science, management, applied mathematics, or related fields.
  • Prior experience in programming and working with large-scale data; expertise in econometrics and machine learning is a strong plus.
  • Strong communication skills

Preferences: Experience with econometrics and machine learning
