LabPLUS is an IANZ accredited medical laboratory and is one of New Zealand's premier laboratories. LabPLUS are part of Te Toka Tumai Auckland. The Microbiology Unit of Microbiology uses molecular and culture techniques to identify a range of organisms including enteric pathogens, multi-resistant organisms, anaerobes, fungi and Mycobacteria. Our aim is to provide a total lab service of excellence and innovation. Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity The Microbiology department of LabPLUS has a vacancy for a permanent Enteric Pathogen and Rapid Molecular Testing Technical Specialist :
  • To be responsible for training and management of staff in the Enteric Pathogen and Rapid Molecular Testing sections
  • Have expertise in the culture and identification of enteric pathogens
  • Have demonstrable theoretical and practical expertise in parasite identification from a range of samples
  • Experienced in the use of Rapid Molecular platforms such as BIofire Filmarray, GeneXpert, QIAstat for testing of a range of samples
  • Experienced in verification/validation of new methods, tests or equipment.
  • Able to Trouble-shoot processes and maintain a professional relationship with all users of the services, both within and outside LabPLus
  • Maintain operating procedures in the web based MediaLab system and perform quality assurance activities
  • Continue process improvements in the section
  • Actively participate in leadership meetings and maintain competency in other sections to be able to participate in the weekend roster

  • Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ - mscouncil.org.nz - with a current Annual Practicing Certificate and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Microbiology Laboratory.

  • Great communication skills and a knowledge of the analytical processes . You will have a strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and a can do attitude to work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
