Metalworks Wanaka has space for the addition of a talented steel artist with welding and engineering experience, a creative eye and ability to think outside the square. Ideally, we are looking for an experienced artistic engineer, who can problem solve on the fly. Almost every project is unique, so adaptability and creativity are a must! We would welcome a chat with anyone who has strong artistic talents (sculptural or drawings) alongside welding and engineering skills. Metalworks Wanaka mainly work with Corten Steel and Stainless Steel, but the ability to work other metals such as aluminium, bronze and brass would be a great advantage. The successful applicant will also be required to be able to read and follow plans when required. We are looking for a strong team player, with a high attention to detail, an effective communicator with a knack for customer service. You will need to have some computer skills and the ability to follow administrative processes. Living within the Wanaka area is required for this role. We are open to candidates with full or part time availability. Pay to be negotiated commensurate with experience ranging from $30 per hour to $40 per hour with a minimum of 30 to maximum of 40 hours per week. Your Responsibilities would be; Managing and working alongside colleagues, clients, suppliers. Accountable for efficiency, quality, studying blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements. Selecting, cleaning and preparing metal stock. Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines. Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering. *Aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments. Joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting. Examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision. Finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing and bathing in acidic solutions. Cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling and grinding. Off-site repair and installations would be required on occasion Your skills and experience requirements: Previous knowledge and experience in the metal fabrication/welding industry. Previous experience managing and coordinating work independently and in teams. NZ Register Level 4 qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). At least three years of relevant experience may be a substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.
