Support Worker – Practical Skills & Mentorship Key Responsibilities As a Support Worker at The Well & Co., you'll play a vital role not just as a carer but as a mentor and guide—focusing specifically on practical skill-building and professional development. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Facilitating community access by transporting participants to activities such as hands-on workshops, community projects, or trade-focused environments.
- Providing structured mentorship and coaching in critical areas like time management, routine building, homework completion, job searching, and employment readiness.
- Supporting practical skills development, especially in trades or technical areas, to boost confidence and independence.
- Establishing trust through consistent, relationship-based support tailored to individual participant goals.
- Documenting participant progress clearly and effectively using digital reporting tools and established templates.
Ideal Candidate We are seeking a proactive, practical, and motivational individual passionate about mentoring young adults toward independence and professional growth, particularly in trade or vocational settings. You will excel in this role if you:
- Have hands-on experience or genuine interest in trades, construction, electrical work, or similar technical fields.
- Possess previous experience mentoring or coaching young adults toward educational or employment goals.
- Can effectively structure sessions to support discipline, consistency, and accountability without applying unnecessary pressure.
- Are calm, emotionally mature, and skilled in building genuine rapport.
- Demonstrate adaptability, resourcefulness, and outcome-driven focus in all interactions.
Core Skills & Competencies Your practical experience, mentoring capability, and character are equally valued alongside formal training. Ideal candidates will have:
- Proven experience mentoring youth or adults in vocational, educational, or employment settings.
- Familiarity with structured coaching methods focused on routine, discipline, and accountability.
- Understanding of mental health support, psychosocial development, and neurodiversity.
- Strong skills in clear documentation, digital reporting, and tracking participant progress.
- Capacity to engage positively and consistently in community-based, practical environments aligned with participant interests and career aspirations.
- Essential RequirementsCert III in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health, Youth Work or equivalent (or working toward)
- Current First Aid & CPR certificate (or willing to obtain)
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- National Police Check (within 12 months)
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transport
