Full Professor (W3)
in Building Construction
at the Faculty of Architecture
We are inviting applications for the position of full professor in the area of
building construction, to be filled by March 1, 2026. The professorship
role covers teaching of the fundamentals of building design and con-
struction and research into innovative concepts and methods of con-
structive design, ensuring alignment with resource-efficient construction
methods. The overall life cycle of a building is considered in order to take
questions of resource management, digital fabrication, serial construc-
tion, renovation and the role of standardization and translate them into a
future-oriented architectural design.
At RWTH Aachen University with its interdisciplinary focus, for example in
the focus area of Built and Lived Environment, the professorship role in-
volves cooperation with other research institutions whose technical inno-
vations, in particular in the area of low-carbon materials, can be shaped
into innovative designs and construction methods.
In the Bachelor of Architecture degree program, the professorship is in-
volved in the teaching of fundamental construction principles and offers
projects and elective subjects; this is also the case in the Master’s de-
gree programs in Architecture and Urban Planning.
Prerequisites are a completed university degree in Architecture, particular
proficiency in scientific work, which is evidenced by a PhD of a very high
standard and / or by an outstanding and internationally recognized archi-
tectural work which is pioneering in the field of sustainable construction.
Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the application should
include proof of this. Fluent German is not required to start the position
but the successful candidate will be expected to hold classes in German
within the first 5 years.
