Job Purpose

This post is a 6-month temporary acting up role to provide resilience to our existing team structure.

As a member of the Audio-visual (AV)Team, the post holder will provide comprehensive management and technical expertise to ensure that external and in house installations and fault repairs are completed to a high standard, ensuring that the AV Team Manager and relevant stakeholders are kept fully appraised of issues and/or quality concerns as they arise. Provide specialist technical expertise in the Audio-Visual discipline and be responsible for the planning, delivery, installation, commissioning, and operability of University audio-visual systems.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the assigned external AV contractor/integrators to project manage the ongoing major capital project for the Keystone building.
  • Manage, create, and carry out all aspects of ‘in-house’ commissioning, AV layout drawings, scope, Bill of Materials (BOM), cable schedules, rack layout, schematics, surveys, resource allocation, organising materials and consumables, monitoring progress, purchases, and ordering. Identify if other teams, stakeholders, or contractors are required.
  • To manage, supervise and inspect works carried out by AV contractors in relation to the audio-visual installation, by regular or daily site visits, to ensure that they are built according to Audio-visual Design Drawings and Specifications and Codes of Practice, and that good standard of workmanship is achieved.
  • To keep the End User Computing (EUC) line managers and University Senior Project Managers/Project Managers/Senior Clerk of Works regularly appraised of progress of works and bring to their attention design problems or other installation issues that may arise on site, so that they can be timeously dealt with.
  • To inspect installation works and complete defects lists for reflection by the AV Contractor and actively work through these defects to a satisfactory outcome before handover to the University.
  • To also have an understanding of the M&E aspects of the project, in relation to the audiovisual design, and to actively engage in the aspects of the Mechanical and the minor Electrical Inspections whilst on site so far as reasonably practicable.
  • To assist in the multi discipline Inspection Team on the projects by referring concerns to the appropriate Clerk of Works (Services), where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with others, including within the wider College/Institute/School and where relevant with external contacts, to enhance the delivery of the service aims and support the broader strategic aims of the University. To lead small project teams in delivery.
  • To attend design team meetings and provide technical input to design and development. To attend post completion design team review meetings and provide detailed appraisal and feedback on design and construction process and procedures.
  • To undertake such duties, training, and work flexibly as reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility and remuneration of the post. To conduct yourself in a courteous manor to all staff, colleagues, and maintain a high standard of professionalism required for this post.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Knowledge, qualifications, skills and experience

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar AV related role(s) OR Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role(s).

A2 Sound knowledge and proven track record of delivering all aspects of AV design and installation, as well as site practices, particularly within a large complex built environment.

A3 An up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of AV design and installation standards and codes of practice.

A4 Ability to apply specialist knowledge and provide advice to resolve problems.

Desirable:

B1 An appreciation of the impact of the Equality Act 2010 on AV design and installation.

Skills

C1 Proven ability to read, create and understand Architectural/Services drawings, Bills of Quantities and project specifications.

Desirable:

D1 A clean current UK Driving Licence.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Proven experience in a similar role.

E2 Relevant and up to date experience of working in an AV installation team.

E3 Experience of producing concise reports.

E4 Experience of delivery in a high consumer-focused environment.

E5 Experience of the construction industry and practical site experience.

E6 Experience of making systematic and rational judgments based on relevant information.

Desirable:

F1 Experience of the range of trade disciplines within the AV Industry.

F2 Experience of Mechanical and Electrical Services.

F3 Experience of working in a public sector organisation.

Other:

G1 A flexible and adaptable attitude to duties undertaken and a willingness to work out with core hours from time to time to meet organisational objectives is required. This will include attendance at essential services shutdowns.

G2 A commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).

G3 The role involves tasks that may require mobility and physical activity typical of construction site environments. Reasonable adjustments and support will be considered to enable individuals to carry out these duties effectively.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.

This post is full time and fixed term for up to 6 months from agreed start date.
