Job Summary: XPO is a top ten global provider of transportation services, and they are seeking a Scientist, Data Science to analyze and interpret large data sets to identify opportunities that will improve operational and financial performance. The role involves partnering with technology and business stakeholders, leveraging data analytics, and applying machine learning and optimization methods to solve critical problems. Responsibilities: • Analyze and interpret large data sets to identify opportunities that will improve XPO’s operational and financial performance • Partner with technology and business stakeholders to create and enhance processes, software applications, metrics and decision-making • Serve as a subject matter expert in one or more facets of the operations • Leverage data analytics and modelling techniques to improve overall operational performance • Perform various analytics that range in complexity from descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive and cognitive depending on the project • Apply Machine Learning, AI, statistical and/or optimization methods on an as needed basis • Combine your technical skills (computer science, mathematics) with business acumen to solve XPO’s most critical problems Qualifications: Required: • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work or military experience • 1 year experience in data science, operations research, or data analysis with a focus on advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, forecasting and optimization • Experience in at least one programming language such as Python, R, SQL, SAS, Spark, Java, etc. • Familiarity with machine learning and statistical methods • Strong communication skills with a knack for explaining complex topics simply Preferred: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics or any related quantitative discipline • A Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics or any related quantitative discipline • 3 years of experience in data science, operations research, or data analysis with a focus on advanced analytics, statistical modeling, machine learning, forecasting and optimization • Demonstrated examples of generating business insights that improved operations or financials • Solid foundation of statistics (hypothesis testing, outlier detection, statistical inference & analysis) • Applied supervised and/or unsupervised learning algorithms Company: XPO is a provider of freight transportation and logistics services.
