Job SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Private Tutor to deliver high-quality tuition in English and Mathematics to KS2, KS3 and GCSE learners. The successful candidate will provide personalised 1:1 and small-group teaching, support measurable academic progress through targeted interventions and assessment, and contribute to a structured, safe and engaging learning environment. This role requires a tutor who can combine strong subject knowledge with effective lesson planning, clear communication, and a rigorous approach to pupil development and record-keeping.
Duties- Deliver in-person 1:1 and small-group tuition in English and Mathematics for KS2, KS3 and GCSE students, in line with the student’s individual needs and learning objectives.
- Plan and prepare tailored lessons and schemes of work adapted to each student’s attainment level, learning style and academic targets.
- Conduct baseline assessments and regular progress reviews, using results to identify weaknesses, set targets and implement focused interventions.
- Design, invigilate and mark assessments, including timed exercises and mock examinations, in order to monitor performance and exam readiness.
- Provide clear verbal and written feedback to students and parents, including progress updates, areas for improvement and recommended next steps.
- Promote effective study habits, organisational skills, confidence and independent learning.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, lesson content, assessment outcomes, progress data and parent communications.
- Uphold safeguarding requirements at all times and follow all relevant internal procedures relating to student welfare, health and safety, and data protection.
- Contribute to a positive, structured and encouraging learning environment that supports student engagement, discipline and academic achievement.
Experience and Person Specification- Strong subject knowledge and the ability to explain concepts clearly, accurately and effectively to learners of differing abilities.
- Experience of assessing student performance, identifying learning gaps and delivering targeted support to secure measurable progress.
- Ability to prepare lesson plans, progress reports and assessment materials to a high standard.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and communicate professionally with parents or guardians.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate academic and administrative records.
- A patient, professional and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond effectively to different learning needs and levels of confidence.
