Job Description:
OverviewBreast Consultant Radiologist role at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Job Plan Commitment: 10 PA. The posts are full-time, but part-time applications will be considered. The Radiology department is well-equipped, including two 128-slice Siemens CT scanners, two 1.5T Siemens MRI scanners, digital screening rooms and updated US machines. We also have a recently installed SPECT CT and a new dual-source Cardiac CT scanner. CT and MRI vans/static scanners support workload at the Community Diagnostic Centre in West Swindon. The Breast Centre is the Wiltshire Breast Screening Service for Swindon, North and West Wiltshire, screening nearly 100,000 women over a three-year cycle, with two screening vans and a static facility at the Great Western Hospital.

It also provides a symptomatic service; uses Hologic mammography units with tomosynthesis, and a contrast enhanced mammography (CEM) service is being set up. Localisations are usually done with Magseed. The Radiology team works as part of a happy, functional unit; there is a private practice which operates as a co-operative. Job Responsibilities
  • The post holder is required to hold a CCST or CCT and should be trained in all aspects of the specialty.
  • Multidisciplinary team (MDT) work is a key component, with MDT discussions with colleagues across the Trust.
  • Develop sub-specialty interests that fit in with Directorate needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
  • Teaching, examinations and accreditation duties are required, including contributions to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activities.
  • Support the Lead Clinician in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Directorate Management Team.
  • Contribute to leadership and development of the specialty under the direction of the Lead Clinician and Associate Medical Director, aligned with the Trust's business plans.
  • Ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Directorate; support the General Manager to achieve objectives.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues in other Directorates within the Trust.
  • Assist in the cost-effective utilization of resources within budgets, including pay, equipment and drugs.
  • Work within the Trust's framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including development of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders and financial procedures.
  • Support the setting up of the Community Diagnostic Centre and the West of England Imaging Network.
  • Offer a presence on-call from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, and 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday; on-call for a further 4 hours on weekends. Outside these hours, outsourced reporting supports service delivery.
  • There is an option for home-working computers to be set up.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Fully registered with the GMC.
  • Entry on the Specialist Register for Radiology, or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.
  • FRCR(UK) or equivalent.
  • CCST (or equivalent) or be accredited and on the GMC Specialist Register in the relevant specialty at the time of appointment.

Experience
  • Clinical training/experience equivalent to UK CCT requirements.
  • Expertise in the full range of radiological imaging.
  • Ability to lead a multi-professional team and take responsibility for clinical care.
  • Sub-specialty interest in Interventional Radiology, Neuroradiology, Head & Neck, Breast, Chest & Cardiac, MSK or Paediatrics is preferable.

Desirable
  • Ability to manage priorities and lead project teams.
  • Demonstrable multi-disciplinary team leadership skills.
  • Experience of audit and management; flexible work organisation.
  • Evidence of management/leadership skills training.
