UCL East
In our most significant development since our founding, UCL has expanded to east London. Situated on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, UCL East is dedicated to disruptive thinking and discovery across disciplines and beyond academic walls, to find solutions to the biggest challenges for future living. We are located in Newham, East London - one of the UK’s most socially diverse areas – and we want our staff recruitment to reflect this diversity.
UCL East, with its first two buildings opened in 2022 and 2023, designed to be a hub for creating world-changing solutions. By breaking down barriers and creating new practices in sustainable spaces and best-in-class facilities, we will be giving our staff and students the tools to take their learning and discoveries further. More than just a conventional campus, UCL East represents a future focused mindset.
UCL Engineering
Engineering Sciences at UCL comprises ten academic departments that undertake research and teaching across a wide range of disciplines. Our scientists and engineers take discoveries from fundamentals to practice, producing innovative technological solutions to challenging problems. It is a dynamic and growing faculty, with a strong vision and desire to use our talents to ‘Change the world’. For more information see https://www.ucl.ac.uk/engineering.
Centre for Engineering Education (CEE)
The Centre for Engineering Education (CEE) is a joint centre between the UCL Faculty of Engineering Sciences and the UCL Institute of Education. It aims to provide research and curriculum development to deliver improved engineering education worldwide. It is actively engaged in the engineering education research community and in using that evidence-based research to deliver innovative and high-quality student experiences at UCL and for external partners through collaborative consultancy projects.
Engineering Foundation Year
The Centre for Engineering Education within the Faculty of Engineering Sciences has launched a new course which reimagines the route to engineering study. The Engineering Foundation Year, taught at UCL East, has a central aim of widening opportunities for students from under-represented educational backgrounds. Upon successful completion of the foundation year, students will go on to study one of a number of engineering undergraduate programmes at UCL.
Through the Engineering Foundation Year (EFY), a one-year pre-undergraduate course, we have curated a sector-leading educational offering of bespoke support for students without traditional qualifications to enable them to apply and thrive at UCL Engineering, from pre-application to graduation.
About The Role
The post-holder will sit within UCL Engineering’s Centre for Engineering Education and will work with colleagues across the faculty to support the development and delivery of the Centre’s Engineering Foundation Year curriculum.
The Engineering Foundation Year has been developed to further our widening participation ambitions. Our students include mature students, students from low-participation backgrounds and first-generation students. It is an entry route into most of our Engineering undergraduate degree programmes. The programme will admit students that do not have the qualifications for direct entry to UCL Engineering and will support them, both academically and pastorally, to achieve their potential.
The Centre seeks to employ a teaching focused lecturer, ideally with both engineering and higher education teaching experience of level 4/5 mathematics and/or level 3 (A-level) teaching. The post-holder will work with the programme lead to support the development of the core mathematics primarily, as well as support the development of the science and engineering project curriculum where appropriate. The post-holder will also work with academics across UCL Engineering and beyond to develop teaching materials and supporting content to ensure a high-quality student experience. The post holder will also play an active role in the wider, pastoral support (including personal tutoring) of the EFY students.
The post-holder will have expertise in curriculum development and in teaching and supporting students at Foundation level. The post-holder will be required to build relationships with key department contacts and to help promote and recruit students for the EFY.
