Job Description:
About the role The University of Technology Sydney is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level B) to play a key role in advancing the commercialisation, business development and market translation of next-generation sustainable materials. The role is embedded within the ‘Build it Green’ research program and will join a dynamic and collaborative cross-disciplinary team spanning design, science and engineering. This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for two years, offering an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher to help shape business pathways and routes to market for sustainable material solutions in design, architecture and the built environment. Key responsibilities Working closely with the project team, you will: • Conduct literature reviews, market scanning, competitor analysis and commercial landscape mapping to identify opportunities, risks and pathways for bio-based building materials and products• Develop feasibility assessments and business cases that inform investment proposals and technological readiness level (TRL) pipelines• Prepare clear, structured documentation and communication materials to support stakeholder engagement (reports, position papers, presentation decks) that articulate technological value, sustainability indicators and adoption potential • Maintain strong data and document control, ensuring all commercial, economic and engagement-related information is traceable, versioned and stored appropriately • Track project tasks and map these to milestones by liaising closely with the team; prepare progress updates for governance and stakeholder reporting • Support junior researchers in communication, documentation and research-to-impact processes About you You are a post doctoral researcher with: • PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as business and innovation studies, sustainability transitions, design, construction management, economics, or a discipline aligned to research commercialisation or translation• Knowledge of commercialisation processes, business case development, investment sector, technological readiness levels and industry engagement within research contexts is desirable• Familiarity with commodity markets and trends, manufacturing ecosystems and relevant regulatory or compliance landscapes • Demonstrated experience preparing successful business cases, technoeconomic analyses, investment documents or market-facing reports • Experience translating research outcomes into stakeholder-ready communication materials, including presentations and written briefs • Evidence of research outputs including publications, reports or sector facing analyses Remuneration Base Salary Range: $125,240 - $148,229 p.a. (Level B) This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. This position is full-time and an appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for two years. Why join UTS?
