About This Opportunity
We are seeking three Lecturers/Senior Lecturers with a strong background in teaching and research, particularly in the discipline of mechanical engineering. You will require the ability and willingness to teach into large mechanical engineering courses. Coordination of courses, supervision of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, completing assigned service roles and engagement with industry partners are also key components of this position.

Key Responsibilities At Academic Level B Will Include
Teaching and Learning
- Coordinate, prepare, and deliver lectures and tutorials; assess and mark coursework across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including those such as ENGG1001, MECH2300, MECH2305, MECH2100, MECH2210, MECH2700, MECH3100, MECH3200, MECH3610, MECH3780, AERO4100, AERO4200, AERO4300, ENGG4552.
- Engage in curriculum design and educational innovation, incorporating online learning and alternative teaching strategies.
- Maintain and enhance course quality to align with educational standards and industry requirements, using feedback and evaluation tools.
- Teach and supervise students across undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate engineering programs, providing high-quality academic support.
- Contribute to program development and course design through consultation with advisors and stakeholders, while ensuring compliance with university policies.
Research
- Develop and lead independent or collaborative research aligned with the School's strategic priorities, using best practice methodologies and ethical standards.
- Contribute to securing external research funding to support high-quality theoretical or applied research projects.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed academic and professional journals to enhance the School’s research profile.
- Collaborate with colleagues and postgraduate students on interdisciplinary research initiatives, contributing to joint projects and scholarly output.
Supervision And Researcher Development
- Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, and oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding of qualified employees in line with University policies.
- Manage employee performance by providing coaching, feedback, and training, while promptly addressing conflicts and grievances according to University procedures.
- Ensure accurate remuneration and benefits for employees, coordinating with Human Resources when changes occur.
Citizenship And Service
- Actively develop partnerships with colleagues, industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community.
- Exhibit leadership through mentoring, collaboration, and efficient management of internal service roles and decision-making processes.
- Perform administrative functions as needed, support other academic positions during absences, and consistently demonstrate UQ values.
Additional to the duties above,
Academic level C will include:
- Provide leadership in research training and supervision, with a strong record of principal supervision of higher degree research students.
- Initiate, encourage, and coordinate strategic collaborative research projects at the University level and beyond, including national and international partnerships.
- Actively seek, secure, and manage external research funding, contributing as a chief investigator in major funding applications.
- Maintain a strong portfolio of high-quality research outputs through publications and presentations in respected academic and professional forums.
- Support academic program development and improvement through coordination or substantial contributions to teaching design and delivery.
- Contribute to the School and broader community through leadership roles, engagement with industry, and facilitating the translation or commercialisation of research outcomes.

About You
For Appointment at Level B
Applicants should possess a PhD in mechanical engineering (or equivalent). Additionally, you will demonstrate:
- A growing profile in teaching and research in the field.
- A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
- Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.
- Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.
- Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.
- A growing record of supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, and HDR students to successful completion.
- Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
For Appointment at Level C
Selection criteria as listed above, in addition to the following:
- National recognition in the area of expertise, with an internationally developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed-referred journals and conference presentations.
- A strong track record of course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.
- A solid record of supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, and HDR students to successful completion.
- A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with a strong contribution to external activities.
