The ELP Tutors will deliver high-quality provision designed to develop students’ language and study skills for progression to degree-level studies. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new academic venture and support students on their higher education journey.
The roles are full time, fixed term from 22 September to 12 December 2025.
The posts are based in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Salary: £33,482 - £36,130 per annum (Grade 5). The salary will be competitive and commensurate with the responsibilities of the role.

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Tutor plays a key role in supporting university students by delivering exceptional English language instruction tailored to their academic needs. Their primary focus is helping learners develop the linguistic skills required to succeed in their studies.
In this position, the tutor employs dynamic and creative teaching methods to motivate students while offering personalized academic guidance and mentorship. Additionally, they teach to a specifically designed scheme of work, evaluating student progress, and providing ongoing support to enhance learning outcomes.
- Undertake teaching and assessment across two credit bearing EAP language modules between September to December in the Foundation Year of our four-year degree programme. Cardiff University in Kazakhstan
- To teach on the specified modules for a maximum of 22 hours per week following a timetable and guidelines provided by the Course Coordinator/Course Manager.
- To actively engage with all pre-course preparation and induction activities.
- To use the specified course scheme of work to prepare and teach appropriate material for lessons.
- To select / create supplementary materials as appropriate, according to the needs of the students and in accordance with the syllabus, assessment fit, course aims and mode of delivery.
- To maintain appropriate teaching and admin records for the specified programme: e.g. keep electronic lesson-by-lesson register of class work up to date and record accurate daily attendance; and produce mid-course and end-course reports of a required standard and to a set deadline.
- To participate in the administration and marking of any coursework, formative and summative assessments, (including participating in standardisation sessions), mark student assignments / homework as required and in accordance with the assessment schedule and deadlines, set criteria and marking schemes.
- To provide and record, on appropriate online forms and in a timely fashion, detailed formative feedback for both tutor and student reference.
- To act as personal tutor and to mentor students as required on the above modules; and to oversee and advise on students’ progress in line with assessment criteria.
- To work closely with other tutors/ colleagues in the team to ensure that students have the best possible learning environment and experience and to collaborate in sharing and pooling of their resources.
- To participate in online weekly briefings and any training sessions.
- To maintain course email/MS Teams contact and respond promptly.
- Willingness to engage in both peer and formal evaluative observations
- To complete, on an on-going basis, a tutor feedback form and return prior to departure at the end of the course.
- Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role
Essential Criteria
- Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience
- Proficient user of English (IELTS 9.0 or equivalent). It is preferable that candidates have a DELTA or Trinity Diploma in TEFL/TESTOL (or equivalent). Those with a CELTA (or equivalent) will be considered only if accompanied with evidence of extensive/significant EAP/ESP experience.
- Proven effective teaching skills and significant, recent classroom EAP/ESP/EFL teaching experience (for example, Foundation, In-sessional or Pre-sessional EAP delivery) within a Higher Educational environment
- Effective proven verbal and written communications skills.
- Effective proven organisational skills and ability to effectively manage and prioritise own workload alongside a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Ability to deal with reactive requests on a regular/daily basis, such as those relating to teaching, supervising students and administrative tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a teaching team
- Proven administrative competence and ability to work effectively within MS Office (e.g. Teams and email)
- Willingness to participate in and contribute to training sessions
Desirable Criteria
- A Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
- Experience of the workload and academic standards required to study at a higher education level
- Experience of working within TNE (Transnational Education)
- Familiarity with teaching students in Foundation Year or similar preparatory programs.
- Experience of teaching EAP to students with 6.5 IELTS and above
