Post Summary Applications are invited for the above post, which will support the Head of Discipline, Professor Seamas Donnelly, and the School of Medicine, with the delivery, organisation, coordination and assessment of the undergraduate medical programme in the School of Medicine. Appointees will be expected to contribute to the ongoing review of the curriculum. The successful applicant will also engage in research and clinical activities but will be expected to spend at least 40% of their time contributing to the teaching programme. The Department of Clinical Medicine at TUH has an active and vibrant research programme. This post offers an opportunity to undertake clinical and/ or translational research in areas supported by the department including respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, renal medicine and in affiliated specialties including dermatology. The appointee will be expected to engage in research and may pursue a higher degree while in post.
The position offers the additional opportunity to gain experience and skills in clinical medicine. The appointment will include clinical commitments as defined by the Head of Discipline in associated specialities and may be appropriate to those pursuing entry into a higher specialist training scheme The successful candidates must complete all relevant pre-employment checks upon commencement of post, including but not limited to; be registered with the
Irish Medical Council, be cleared from a
Garda vetting, and be cleared from
occupational health perspective by the relevant hospital.
Post status: The appointment is offered on a one-year fixed term contract basis.
The appointment is available from Monday, 13th July 2026. This role is designated as a specifically designed training position for medical doctors. The nature of the role is intended to provide structured learning and development within a defined period, after which the employee is expected to progress to the next stage of their career. As such, the role is not intended for long-term employment beyond the duration of the training program. The post is not being offered on a permanent basis as the training program is finite.
Salary: This appointment will be made on the HSE Registrar scale €68,891 - €81,126 per annum scale or HSE Specialist Registrar scale €77,234 - €96,158 per annum in line with current public pay policy.
