Overview Of The Role

This is an exceptional opportunity to join UK Biobank as People and Development Partner in our new People and Development Team. You will partner Leaders and colleagues in either UKB Core or Imaging Study alongside delivering people focused projects

You'll build effective relationships with Leaders, ensuring people are at the forefront of functional plans and their execution. You will provide advice, support and guidance to ensure that people priorities are integrated into Departmental objectives and that policy is applied fairly and consistently. Some travel to other sites including Newcastle, Reading, Bristol and Oxford will be required in order to provide an effective service.

You Will

  • Provide expert input across a range of people issues spanning the employee life cycle in support of the People Strategy and organisation's priorities; workforce planning, hiring, induction, performance, engagement, change, reward, equity, diversity and inclusion, employee relations, engagement and development.
  • Build trusted relationships with Leaders and Managers to ensure highly effective people plans are developed and delivered
  • Lead people initiatives across UKB in collaboration with Leaders and Managers
  • Support internal customer groups with a regular cycle of talent and succession planning activities
  • Advise on and manage a range of employee relations issues including grievance, absence, disciplinary and capability.
  • Be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of UK Biobank's people policy framework and up to date People Policies, regularly reviewing policies to take account of changes to employment legislation whilst ensuring policies are easily accessible.
  • Support the development and execution of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and initiatives, providing advice and guidance on policy formation and embed the principles of UK Biobank's EDI strategy across all employment policies.
  • Advise on right to work, certificate of sponsorship licences and visas ensuring UKB complies with its legal duties and responsibilities.
  • Analyse data to provide insightful feedback on employee engagement, supporting Leaders to take action on the issues that matter most to colleagues through highly engaging plans.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will:
  • Have significant People/HR service delivery experience linked to partnering internal customer groups on Departmental objectives and plans with excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Able to develop effective plans over a 0-12 month time horizon, reviewing and evaluating plans and be agile if Departmental priorities change.
  • Understand workforce trends to predict opportunities and risks. Builds internal and external networks to ensure diverse opportunities exist to resource UKB and maintain own professional knowledge.
  • Be experienced in advising on people change programmes and role design
  • Demonstrate excellent planning and organisational skills to plan and manage multiple projects and a busy workload at the same time.
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills - experience of using and interpreting data and HR metrics to put forward recommendations to support decision making in a clear, well written way.
  • Experienced in coaching leaders on all aspects of people management
  • Significant experience in the review and design of People policy across all areas of Employment Law, particularly in advising on immigration, certificate of sponsorship and right to work checks
  • Significant experience in advising and developing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policies and practices
  • Solution-focused, problem solver with excellent communication skills
  • Effective and purposeful collaborator
  • Relevant People and Development qualification
  • CIPD Membership (desirable)
  • Coaching qualification (desirable)
