As part of this major recruitment drive, we are looking to identify experienced 2 x Signalling Leads (ETCS) for their Major Projects and Integration division (MPI). One position will be on Cross River Rail and the other will be on the Marouka to Varsity project.QR operates passenger and freight rail services across Queensland, and is committed to providing a customer-focused, safe and world-class rail service. It is also responsible for the maintenance of a 6600 kilometre rail network and the effective delivery of projects to improve the efficiency and increase the capacity of its rail assets. QR has a current project pipeline of over A$15 billion and this is expected to grow exponentially in the build up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. As a result of this significant investment, the need to secure in-house signalling and systems assurance resources is paramount to support the Major Projects and Integration division (MPI). MPI is currently delivering Cross River Rail, which includes the installation/commissioning of ETCS level 2, The Wave project from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast and the Logan To Gold Coast Faster Rail Project,The
Signalling Lead - ETCS, will be guiding the entire lifecycle of next-generation signalling (Design, Renewals, Implementation, Testing, and Commissioning), ensuring the effective roll out of ETCS level 2.
What You'll Do:- Drive Engineering Excellence: Lead and provide expert signalling engineering advice across the projects lifecycle, ensuring safety, scope, and budgets are completely aligned.
- Coach & Inspire: Act as a technical mentor, coaching professional engineers to reach their full potential. The ETCS Lead will manage a team of up to five engineers-
- Innovate & Optimize: Infuse business improvements, technology development, and innovation into daily practices to score major commercial and operational wins.
- Build Bridges: Collaborate deeply with internal and external stakeholders
- Uphold Integrity: Champion compliance with professional engineering practices, safety frameworks, and environmental legislation.
What We Are Looking ForWe are looking for a delivery focused expert in the rail signalling space who brings a blend of commercial acumen and high-level leadership.
- Qualifications: A Bachelor of Electrical Engineering AND ideally a current Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) status or have the necessary qualifications and experience to attain it. IE: have CEng or Professional Engineer status with Engineers Australia.
- Signalling ETCS experience: Extensive, hands-on experience in the Design, Renewal, Implementation, Testing, and Commissioning of ETCS signalling infrastructure. CBTC experience may also be considered.
- People Leadership: A proven track record of managing, coaching, and developing teams of professional engineers in a complex, regulatory environment. Suitable candidates will be expected to have strong soft skills and possess the ability to influence and work closely with suppliers to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Commercial Acumen: The ability to translate engineering solutions into tangible, sustainable commercial value.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with meeting strict safety, environmental, and statutory obligations.
