Location: Oatlands and Hobart, TasmaniaAbout Callington Mill DistilleryCallington Mill Distillery is Tasmania’s most prestigious and innovative single malt whisky producer, recognised for excellence in craftsmanship, innovation, and heritage. With expanding hospitality and retail operations across Oatlands and Hobart, we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to strengthen our financial operations and systems integration.Purpose of the RoleThe Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial activities of the business, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and providing accurate and timely reporting.
This role also plays a key part in developing and integrating operational systems to streamline processes across finance, production, hospitality, and retail divisions.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Reporting
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly management reports, budgets, and cash flow analyses.
  • Ensure accurate and timely lodgement of BAS, PAYG, and superannuation.
  • Oversee supplier payments, invoicing, and expense tracking.
  • Assist with cost accounting, stock management, and inventory reconciliation.
  • Support annual audits and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
  • Apply for Grants and TFES and other requirement including Visa sponsorship to staff.

Systems Integration & Process Improvement
  • Develop and integrate systems across finance, POS, payroll, and reporting platforms (e.g. Xero, Lightspeed, Tanda).
  • Identify opportunities to automate workflows and improve data accuracy.
  • Implement financial controls and ensure system integrity across departments.
  • Collaborate with management to standardise reporting and operational processes.

Business Support & Analysis
  • Provide financial insights to support decision-making.
  • Analyse performance trends and variance reports.
  • Assist with strategic planning, forecasting, and business efficiency initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or related field.
  • CA/CPA qualified or actively working towards certification.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar accounting or finance role.
  • Proficiency in Xero (essential).
  • Experience with Lightspeed, Tanda, or other POS/inventory systems highly desirable.
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Solid understanding of Australian accounting and tax regulations
  • Working Conditions
    • Full-time position based in Tasmania.
    • The successful candidate must be available to work across both Hobart and Oatlands, with at least one shift per week at 6 Mill Lane, Oatlands TAS 7120.
    • Flexibility required during reporting periods or special events.
