Job Description About the Role
ING is looking for a Mobile Interaction Designer to join their UX Centre of Expertise and support the development of the ING native mobile app, with some involvement in web components.
This role is a replacement position within an existing squad and is ideal for a medior-level designer (3–5 years of experience) who thrives in a collaborative yet autonomous environment.
You will be embedded in a multidisciplinary squad as the sole designer, working closely with developers and business stakeholders, while being supported by a broader UX community of approximately 50 professionals.
About the Team

You will join ING’s UX Centre of Expertise, a team of around 50 UX professionals including designers and researchers. From this centre, you will be assigned to a squad working on ING’s mobile app and web platforms in the Netherlands.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design intuitive and user-centered interaction flows for native mobile applications
  • Work within and contribute to existing design systems
  • Collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and business stakeholders
  • Translate complex requirements into clear interaction solutions
  • Advocate for UX best practices and defend design decisions with stakeholders
  • Operate independently within a squad while leveraging support from the UX Chapter


Requirements Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven track record in designing native mobile applications
  • Strong focus on interaction design (not visual/UI design)
  • Experience working with design systems
  • Ability to manage stakeholders effectively and communicate design decisions clearly
  • Comfortable working as the only designer in a squad
  • Experience in complex corporate environments (e.g. banking, insurance, energy) is highly preferred
  • Strong sense of ownership and the confidence to challenge stakeholders when needed

Profile
  • Medior level (3–5 years of experience, more is welcome)
  • Proactive, assertive, and able to “stand your ground”
  • Independent but collaborative mindset
  • Fluent in English (Dutch is not required)

Additional Requirements
  • A portfolio is mandatory and must clearly demonstrate:
    • Interaction design work
    • Experience with design systems
    • Relevant mobile app projects


Benefits What we offer:
  • 12 months contract with the possibility of extension, aiming for internal employment at ING after 18 months.
  • A 36 or 40 hour workweek with flexible hours and a hybrid working model (office and home-based).
  • Salary range: €3.872 - €6.345 gross per month (based on 36 hours per week, based on experience).
  • Additional benefits: holiday allowance, 13th month and pension contributions.
