The School of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHSS) at Habib University invites applications for open-rank faculty positions in Economics in its Social Development and Policy Program (SDP). Depending on the credentials, candidates will be considered at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor ranks as appropriate. The SDP program is a unique inter/trans-disciplinary blend of a wide range of disciplines including anthropology, economics, political science, and sociology, in an all-inclusive effort to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the forces that shape our world. This broad-based approach is essential for fostering critical thinking and developing analytical skills vital for understanding the human condition in the Anthropocene and building a reparative future. The program is looking to hire exceptional faculty who are passionate about teaching and student learning, and who are excited about the challenges of reimagining the teaching of Economics at the undergraduate level. We are seeking outstanding scholars committed to pedagogical excellence and mentorship to ensure student success. Fall appointments begin August 1st and Spring appointments begin January 1st of each year. Qualifications: Candidates must have completed or must be in the final stages of a doctoral degree in relevant fields such as Economics (any sub-specialization), Public Policy or Finance from a leading global institution. The ideal candidate will possess excellent teaching and scholarly skills, be able to work with a diverse population of students and colleagues, enjoy influencing the intellectual growth of their students, be effective in institutional service, be passionate about undergraduate research, and is excited to work with colleagues across disciplines. Candidates should be comfortable teaching quantitative research methods and data analysis and are expected to possess a firm grasp of probability and statistics, econometrics, handling of large data sets, surveys, fieldwork, along with a mastery of relevant software such as Excel, Stata, R, Python, QGIS for applied learning. Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include delivery of engaging, rigorous and hands on undergraduate-level courses in Economics, including but not limited to Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Quantitative Research Methods, and Data Analysis, as well as developing specialized electives within the candidate's area of expertise. Faculty must also demonstrate active engagement in developing new syllabi, institutional service, professional activities, student mentorship, curriculum planning, and review. The annual teaching load is 5 three - or four - credit courses. Once onboard, faculty should also anticipate supporting the Habib Liberal Core, a core component of our Liberal Arts education.
