Job Description:
Temporary Need: 12/21/25 - 02/28/26 . Three (3) full-time, seasonal, temporary Winter Open Range Herder needed. Requirements: Must have 5 months experience. Must be able to lift 80 pounds. On call for up to 24 hours 7 days a week. Wage is $2,058.31/mo.

Location: Work will be performed in Tremonton, Utah. Worksites are located on open range locations in Box Elder County, Utah. Worksites change based upon weather, and grazing conditions.

Duties: The employee will tend to the day to day needs of sheep and/or cattle grazing on open range or pastures in cold weather conditions. Conditions can be wet. Snow, ice and wind are common. Temperatures can range from +50 to -10 degrees Fahrenheit.

The employee will keep the animals together and in the assigned area for grazing. The employee will observe the animals for signs of illness and administer vaccines, medications and insecticides according to instructions. The employee will assist in providing supplemental feed and water to the livestock. This will include breaking ice to allow access to open water. When water must be transported by truck to the livestock, the employee will assist in preventing the equipment from damage due to freezing temperatures. Some minor maintenance of fences may be necessary.

The work activities involve the herding or production of livestock (which includes work that is closely and directly related to herding and/or the production of livestock). Some work/tasks may occur off the range, but more than 50% of work will be performed on the range. The employee must be able to saddle and ride a horse or mule in a safe and effective manner such as to avoid injury to self, coworkers, bystanders, or the animal itself. The employee may be required to shoe horses for their use. The employee must be able to work alone for extended periods of time and complete tasks as instructed by the employer in a safe and timely manner without direct supervision.

Jensen Livestock LLC facilitates practices of good animal husbandry. Employees that are found abusing, neglecting or abandoning livestock entrusted to their care may be terminated for cause. If the negligent/abusive actions of an employee results in the loss/death of livestock/animals, or cause harm to another person. The employee may be held accountable for these actions.

Terms and Conditions: Jensen Livestock will provide all tools, supplies and equipment necessary to perform the assigned tasks safely and effectively, at no charge to the worker. These items may include, but are not limited to: Horse(s) where appropriate, with saddle and tack; dogs, axe, shovel, bow saw, sleeping bag, pillows, additional bedding, rain gear, insulated coat, work boots(suitable for riding), rubber boots, and gloves(leather work gloves and insulated cold weather gloves). Additional seasonal items may be provided at the workers request. (i.e. winter boots, insulated cold- weather clothing). The horse(s), dogs, saddle and tack represent a significant capital investment on the part of the employer. The employee is expected to maintain these items in good order. (normal wear and tear excepted). Injuries or illness to horses or dogs must be reported to the employer immediately! The worker may be held responsible for the injury or damage.

The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. Applicants that have not worked as a livestock worker during the past twelve (12) months, up to two (2) references will be required. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and e

If the worker completes 50% of the work con ract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer ($16.28/day, maximum $68/day with receipts). The offered wage equals or exceeds the highest of the prevailing wage (AWER) that is issued and determined by DOL for the time period the work is performed. This job is in connection with a future H-2A labor certification application.
