Job descriptionThe role of a SHYP Support Worker is to support UASC's to grow in all areas of their lives, to work towards emotional stability and develop their full potential.Our Support Workers positively support young people to develop their independent skills, achieve their goals and fulfil their ambitions. They will have monthly supervision sessions and are able to receive advice and guidance from the Manager.
Contract: Schedule:- Night shift
- Weekdays
- Day shifts
- Weekends
Education and qualifications:- GCSE Maths and English
- A commitment to complete further training as required
Desirable - A Level 3 in Health and Social Care
- Driving license
Knowledge and experience: Essential - A minimum of 6 months experience of working with young people, either paid or voluntary
Desirable - More than 12 months experience of working with young people
- Experience of working with UASC / young people who are separated from their families
- Understanding of working with young people who have been traumatised
- An awareness of group dynamics
- An understanding of current legislation relating to young people leaving care
- Knowledge of child development
- Housing and supported accommodation knowledge and experience
Skills and abilities: Essential - A genuine interest in working with young people and transitioning adults ensuring their welfare needs are prioritised at all times
- Willing to make a commitment to the job
- Able to engage appropriately with young people and professionals to develop rapport
- Can recognise trauma, conflict, challenging behaviour and situations needing diffusion
- Ability to engage young people in a variety of activities to develop / sustain appropriate relationships
- Can adhere to personal and professional boundaries
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to take direction and work effectively as a member of the team
- Is aware of own emotional responses which will support young people to trust adults
- Ability to be a positive role model and consistent childcare provider
- Able to meet the requirement of the shift pattern and remain flexible with the working lifestyle
- Can maintain confidentiality
- Is able to use MS Office and electronic filing systems with proficiency
Desirable - Hold a current full driving license and prepared to use their vehicle within the role
- Is pragmatic, resilient and able to use own initiative
- Can manage and plan own work program and have good problem-solving skills
- Is able to prioritise and work under pressure whilst dealing calmly in an emergency
